Baby’s 1st Christmas | Jana Kunz Photography ~ Minnesota Baby Photographer

This little baby girl was SO happy. All smiles from ear to ear. We changed her, moved her, entertained her and she just was the happiest little girl. This is one of the reasons I really do love capturing this age. They do not have a care in the world and don’t seem to mind strangers (who me?). You would understand why she was so happy if you had met her parents, they are just wonderful people. Thank you so much for choosing me to capture your memories, I had a great time!

I love this photo. :)

Happy Holidays! | Minneapolis Newborn Photographer

Happy Holiday’s everyone!!

I am sad to announce that I did not get a holiday card out in the mail this year. I have just been so busy that I couldn’t pull one together in time. I did have a great idea! I just couldn’t pull it off. I was thinking about doing a New Years card, so something might happen, but don’t bet any of your Christmas money on it.

I do have to say that even though this year has had its bumps, looking back it has been a good year for all of us in the Kunz family. Thank you for being a part of it. :o) I sincerely appreciate each of my family members, friends and clients. I hope the New Year rings in good things for all of us!!

This newborn session was from the 1st of November, so I am still catching up here. I have quite a bit of posting to do over the holidays. I will also be updating my website while I am on vacation (vacation, ha-ha), or at least the images on it. I think it has been about 9 months! Long over-due. Anyway, isn’t this little guy just beautiful! He was a perfect angel for his session, I really couldn’t have asked for more. I had a REALLY hard time picking images to show, but here are a few of the many favorites I had from this portrait session.

Brothers | Maple Grove Children’s Photographer

These three brothers were a hoot. They were full of energy and a lot of fun to photograph. Their personalities really shined through in the images, something I try very hard to capture for mom and dad. If you want to know how far behind I am in blogging my sessions, this one was from November 1st! I have been extremely busy and am trying to wind down from a wonderfully busy year. Here are a few of my favorites from this session, they are so handsome!!.

Growing up | Twin Cities Children’s Photographer

These two children have been coming to me for portraits from the very beginning! Literally, this little girl was my very first client when she was 6 months old. That seems like a long time ago! It is amazing how fast they grow up. My littlest son is the same age as { J } and says she’s his best friend; they live across the street from us. How sweet is that? :o) This was another fun portrait session(s) (wink-wink), and I was able to capture the wonderful personalities of these two little sweeties. Here are two of my favorite from the session.

What’s in your drinking water?

I have been considering blogging about this next topic but just haven’t had time to do it until now. I thought it was kind of important since a lot of people drink out of 5 gallon water coolers at work and at home. I did. At least I did at work. The problem didn’t really start until I started a new job earlier this year. At my old job they did not have 5-gallon water coolers, just filtered (disgusting) water systems that tasted like it was coming straight out of the river nearby. I always wondered if they ever cleaned those things. I brought to work my own water instead. Anyway, back to the 5-gallon water coolers. So my tongue was feeling kind of funny at work, not enough to alarm me at first, but more annoying. It wasn’t until I was sick about a month ago that I really started to take notice that something was really wrong. My tongue was really hurting and felt swollen. I didn’t know why it was doing this, I felt like I needed to drink more water. I drink a lot of water in the first place, but the more I drank the worse I felt. I would go home and my symptoms would slowly go away and I wouldn’t have the problem at all over that weekend. Monday I came back to work and my tongue started hurting and swelling again. A light bulb went off! It was only happening when I was drinking the water at work. I started to investigate the situation and do my own testing. At first I thought it was the plastic cup I was drinking out of. I checked out the recycling symbol on the bottom of the glass and it was a 6. I looked it up online and was told that this was a bad plastic to be drinking out of. The site I read only talked about the 6 symbol so I didn’t really know about the others. I decided to eliminate the plastic cup and bring in a real glass and solve my problem. Well, The next day the problem persisted to no avail, though not as bad. I looked into the situation a little further and noticed that the top of the 5-gallon water jug had a recycling symbol 7 on it. Low and behold, according to the National Geographic website (http://www.thegreenguide.com/products/Kitchen/Plastic_Containers) that is the worst plastic that could possibly hold consumables!!! And I am drinking that water, putting it in my body. I felt very betrayed by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This is what the website says:

#7 Polycarbonate (PC) is found in baby bottles, 5-gallon water bottles, water-cooler bottles and the epoxy linings of tin food cans. PC is composed of a hormone-disrupting chemical called bisphenol A, which has been linked to a wide variety of problems such as cancer and obesity.

Many #7 polycarbonate bottles (including baby bottles), microwave ovenware, eating utensils and plastic coatings for metal cans are made with bisphenol A (BPA). Many studies have found that BPA interferes with hormones, as phthalates do, and a March 1998 study in Environmental Health Perspectives (EHP) found that BPA simulates the action of estrogen when tested in human breast cancer cells.

A growing number of scientists are concluding, from animal tests, that exposure to BPA in the womb raises the risk of certain cancers, hampers fertility and could contribute to childhood behavioral problems such as hyperactivity. A January 2006 EHP study on mice indicated that BPA alters the function of mouse pancreatic cells, which produce insulin, suggesting that the chemical may enhance the risk of developing Type II diabetes. Finally, an early 2007 study on BPA in rats found that it led to increased growth, suggesting that the chemical might trigger obesity.

Pretty scary stuff isn’t it! The website advises against plastics that have a recycling code of 3, 6 or 7 on them. Most sports bottles have a 7 on the bottom of them.

I stopped drinking out of that water source and brought in my own and have not had any more problems. Okay, I admit that I have one cup of coffee in the morning and that water comes out of the 5 gallon container - and yes I can feel my tongue acting funny - but I need my coffee until I can come up with a solution. That is when I discovered Jana Water, LOL. That is getting kind of expensive and I am looking into a filtration jug or something I can keep at work, but bringing in my own bottled water is working for now. Most bottled water is a 1 on the recycling chart, which is deemed very safe.

So this is just my little story in hopes to make others aware. My mom said the same thing happens to her when she drinks out of the 5-gallon water machine at her place of employment also. Makes you think….

Brothers | Minneapolis Children’s Photographer

These two brothers are so darn handsome! I had done their portraits a couple of years ago, so it has been a while since I had seen them. The little guy used to go to the same daycare as my boys, but it has been at least a year since we switched providers. It was so nice to see them again! Big brother has the most beautiful eyes, so blue. He is such a sweetheart to photograph, very photogenic and charming. Little brother is a bit of a rascal, but that is the age. He is the same age as my little guy and honestly they just turn goofy in front of the camera. It is fun to capture that personality for mom and dad, but a bit of a challenge for group photos - trust me, I am still trying to get a nice one of my boys together this year!! I was very happy with how this session turned out; here are a few of my favorites.

Look At All That Hair!! | St. Michael MN Newborn Photographer

Okay, I am attempting to blog here, LOL. I am sooo far behind, but that just means I have been extremely busy keeping up with my clients. It’s all good, I do know that. I was also having computer problems, which are on the verge of being resolved (fingers crossed). I am still toggling between two computers to get my work done. One computer is corrupting images but has internet, the other I can get my work done on but the ethernet died (no internet). Kind of a pickle to be in! Hopefully the computer with the corrupting image problem will be fixed tomorrow so that I can just work solely on it. I also only have one keyboard at the moment, you can imagine all the plugging and unplugging I am doing going back and forth!! I love how it all has to happen at my busiest month of the year. :) On my to-do list tomorrow: 1) Buy another keyboard  2) Pick up new RAM.

Anyway, on to my featured session! Can you believe this little newborn is less than two weeks old? I can’t believe how much hair she has, so cute! I am excited to see how much it grows between now and her 6-month portrait session. She will probably have pigtails by then. :o) I love the one where she is smiling, so adorable!!

This was a fun session, thanks for coming mom and dad!
